With the growing popularity of comic books in Malta it is of no surprise that many artistically inclined avid comic readers want to create something within this medium. However, with that being said, knowing how to start writing a comic book can be a puzzling task.

Graphic Novels Library Malta (GNLM) will be organising two courses about comic books in these coming weeks with two of Malta’s top comic creators. Both courses will run simultaneously for 14 weeks from March onwards and will be held at the Central Public Library in Floriana every alternating Saturday.

The first course on offer will be ‘Understanding Comics’ led by Dean Fenech – a local artist known for his graphic novels ‘Apocalypse Rocked’ and ‘Ghetiebi Mikula’. This course will focus more on understanding the basis of comic books and the narrative in comics. Those who attend will receive a free copy of the book ‘Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud’.

The second course on offer is ‘Creating Comics’ which will be led by Peter Magro, known for his illustrations in the graphic novel ‘S.T.E.A.M Island Under Siege’. This course will focus particularly on how to illuminate the comic medium and communicate stories through panels. Those who attend this course will also receive a free copy of ‘IDRAWMANGA’ and ‘IDRAWCOMICS’.

At the end of both courses, attendees will be given a certificate of completion and both courses will run against a fee of €30 each. Interesting enough? Drop us a line on gnlmmalta@gmail.com for more information and booking.
