SelfMadeHero is delighted to announce the publication of BLOSSOMS IN AUTUMN, from Belgian writer Zidrou and The Return Of The Honey Buzzard artist Aimée De Jongh. The book explores the underrepresented topic of finding love in later life. Since retiring, 59-year-old widower Ulysses has been in the grip of loneliness. When he meets Mrs Solenza, a former model who now runs a cheese shop, a relationship blossoms that surprises them both. A life-affirming exploration of growing old and falling in love.
Since retiring, 59-year-old widower Ulysses has fallen into the grip of loneliness. A former removals man, he’s lost all sense of direction. He has no grandchildren to care for and his son is consumed by work. Mrs Solenza, a former model, now runs the family business: a cheese shop once owned by her late mother. Now the oldest in her family, she too is alone. When by chance Ulysses and Mrs Solenza meet, a relationship blossoms that surprises them both.
Belgian writer Zidrou and artist Aimée de Jongh (The Return of the Honey Buzzard) explore the underrepresented topic of finding love in later life. Tackling the subject of loneliness with sensitivity and intelligence, Blossoms in
Autumn is filled with the same empathy, affection and warmth as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Hope Springs and popular BBC sitcoms such as Waiting For God and As Time Goes By.
Aimée de Jongh is an award-winning graphic novelist who published her first comic when she was 17 years old. Her first graphic novel, The Return Of The Honey Buzzard, also published by SelfMadeHero, was one of The Observer’s best graphic novels of 2016.
About The Return of the Honey Buzzard
“De Jongh’s black and white artwork is cinematic and full of character. Reading it, you both rattle through the story and linger on the imagery. A genuine pleasure.” – The Herald
