2D: The Northern Ireland Comics Festival is happening this weekend (31St May – 2nd June). Headlining an impressive roster of creators and exhibitors are Cam Kennedy, Charlie Adlard, Chris Ryall and Jock. Other guests include some of Wicked Comics favourite creators such as Gary Erskine, Garry Leach, Ian Churchill, Dave Elliot, Emma Vieceli, Si Spurrier, John Higgins, Laura Howell and the King of Pop Culture himself Chris J. Thompson.

The Northern Ireland Comics Festival was first held in April 2007 and has been held annually ever since. 2D celebrates comic book culture and works to promote and support sequential art and storytelling. It is organised and supported by the Verbal Arts Centre, a unique and celebrated educational charity founded to promote the spoken and written word in Ireland.

The majority of the festival is hosted at the Verbal Arts Centre, in a fantastic location on the beautiful and historic city walls. Derry/Londonderry is the only remaining completely walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples of Walled Cities in Europe.

The 2D festival is different from most comic conventions as it is a completely free event offering free admission to the comics fair, workshops, panels, talks and all other related events. So if you’re going to be in Northern Ireland this weekend, Derry is the place to be.
