Whether you love it or hate it, the Dark Souls franchise offers gamers a detailed and vast in-game history. Even if you never played the games, you can still appreciate the amazing story set in the Dark Souls universe. With the new series by Titan Comics, Dark Souls: Age of Fire weaves a tale of adventure through the world of Dark Souls. The first issue of this four part story follows the Silver Knight – Arkon, as he is summed by the Lord of sunlight – Gwyn, to investigate and save a neighbouring town from dark magic and demons. The first issue immerses us in the world by introducing several other characters and hinting at their rivalries bubbling under the surface. Waiting for the right occasion to strike at each other.

The art on this comic book series looks incredible. The colors of the flames and other effects such as lightning, is so vibrant that it feels like it’s trying to jump out from the pages and engulf the reader. Some of the artwork reminds me of the Judge Dredd comics, which in this case highlights and complements the fantastical elements of Dark Souls. Each panel can be framed as a work of art, especially the various variant covers available for this issue. I am intrigued by this series and I look forward to see what game elements make it into the comic.
