Mycroft Holmes and The Apocalypse Handbook sees the diffident, brilliant Mycroft pulled into a globe-spanning adventure at the behest of Queen Victoria and a secret organization at the heart of the British government. With a madman on the loose with civilization-destroying weapons, can the smartest man in England set aside his idle, womanizing ways for long enough to track down the foe that may be his match?

Well I am going to say it now, I never felt or expected the titular character to be in any danger whatsoever. Don’t get me wrong, this is an action packed adventure that thrills the reader at every corner but Mycroft always, and I mean always managed to come on top no matter the odds. For someone who always has an answer for anything and has the powers of a deus ex-machina which somehow always manages to find some for of plausibility in the real world, I am not sure I like Mycroft Holmes so much. I mean the actual character not the story.
The story is brilliant. Exactly what you expect from a steam punish victorian era adventure. The gadgets, locations and ambitions of the characters are what you expect from such a thrill ride. I never felt disoriented or lost and the action is well paced. The only thing I did not enjoy as much is the titular character. Maybe he was written as an unlikable character on purpose. He is arrogant, self confident to the point of inducing vomit and thinks way to highly of himself. Well is part of the holmes family I guess but Mycroft comes across as mixture between his brother Sherlock, James Bond and a little bit of Indiana Jones.
So if you are a fan of any of the above mentioned characters you are going to enjoy this book. Do not expect anything more than a fun satisfying adventure. The art in the book is amazing, the gadgets and people are drawn in such a way that want to jump out of the pages.

This exciting graphic novel, which adds new revelations and insights into the life of Mycroft, sees Abdul-Jabbar team with best-selling novelist Raymond Obstfeld (Joker and the Thief), artist Joshua Cassara (Secret Empire, New Avengers, The Troop) and colorist Luis Guerrero (Doctor Who, Rivers of London, The Troop).
